Below is an introduction letter that was assigned in the beginning of the semester. This letter consists of my academic goals, career aspirations, and the skills I hope to gain from taking this class.

Dear Mr.Metenko,

My name is Fatoumata Sawaneh and I am currently a freshman in my second semester, attending the City College of New York . As of now, I am undecided on what I’d like to major in, but I plan to go to Medical School in the future. In order to achieve my goal of pursuing a career in the medical field, I must get great grades in my classes and many more. Therefore, my goals for this semester are to put 100% effort in every assignment I am given, try to get A’s in the classes I am currently taking, recognize what my strengths and weaknesses are, and make significant improvements in each class.

Although I am undecided, I have thought about majoring in the sciences.I hope attending this class would shed some light on whether I would like to major in science or not. I’m planning to take Biology next semester and I’m sure I will have to write some lab reports, by taking this class I expect to learn how to properly write a lab report. I also expect to improve my grammar skills as well as learn how to write to different audiences. Sometimes I go straight to the point in my writing without thoroughly explaining to my audience so I hope this class would help me on that area as well.

Last semester, I took a creative writing class. Although I did well in the class, there are some things I need to improve on in my writing. In the class, I waited until the last minute to write my essay. This caused me a lot of stress; My essay would have been better if I would have started it earlier. I plan to decrease the amount of procrastination while attending your class because I don’t believe procrastination will get me to where I want to be or help me achieve my goals.
