Group Project

For my writing of sciences class, I had to work in a group in order to do a lab proposal and report. I usually don’t like working in groups because I believe I work best by myself and i’m not really a social person. I have worked in group projects before , and i had a bad experience with them. Majority of the time my group mates don’t do their work, and I end up doing most of the work so we don’t fail. Although in my previous experiences with group projects wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be, this time was different.

To begin, we introduce ourself to each other and exchanged numbers. We later on went to create a group chat named “future docs” , to make it easier for us to communicate. My group mates were absolutely great and were willing to put in work to complete our assignments. Working in a group puts pressure on all of us, because our actions not only affects our own grade, but also everyone else in the group as well. So that meant I could not procrastinate as much as I usually do.

We all decided that we would break the proposal and lab report into sections that each of us must do. Doing this made it easier because we all had one thing to focus on doing research on and writing. We did not fight over which parts of the lab report or proposal we wanted to do, which was amazing to me. Also we reminded each other repeated on when the deadline was and if we found errors in each others sections we let each other know. I couldn’t ask for better groupmates, not only did we get our assignments done but we also bonded throughout the journey. We motivate each other and cracked jokes here and there which made things less tense.

The only problem I encountered was when it was time to present our lab report to the class. I was preparing to start off the presentation and talk about the background information, but then one of my group members wanted to do that. But then she offered for us to split the role, which solved the problem. She started off the presentation and did the intro, and I presented the background information and the methods. We handled the situation quite nicely so we were all in good terms.

We all have different writing techniques when writing. Something that I noticed that my group mates did in there writing was that they included transitions that I liked doing in my sections. This is one thing I needed to work on in my proposal, lab report, and I need to keep in mind in my future papers.
